Transitioning in Style

As the summer winds down it’s time to break into your fall wardrobe.  But, don’t throw all of your summer clothing in the back of your closet yet.  Transition your outfits smoothly by adding a little layering.

Diane von Furstenberg

What better to layer with than a great blazer?  If you are going back to the office spice up your cubicle wear with some bright colors like Diane von Furstenberg’s fall line.  That little touch of summer color will help brighten your work days.  This look is best paired with white pants for full color effect.

Burberry Prorsum

After work you can take your blazer on a little girly date.  Find your favorite skirt and a rocking tee for a casual laid back look.  You can even take this look back to school with some tips from Burberry Prosrum. Darker colors and tans will give you that excellent mature and classy school girl look.  Or get creative and pair with a bright floral skirt and tights for a girly summery look that will last well into the fall chills.

Vivenne Westwood Red Label
Love stealing your boyfriends’ clothing?  Sneak out with his oversized blazer and your skinny jeans for an adorable classic look that is still summer appropriate.  You can go grunge terrific like Vivienne Westwoods Red Label or preppy chic with the right jeans.
If your summer has been too hot for a blazer or just don’t have the right one check out a few of our blazers that are ready to transition from us to you.  If you need a chic working girl blazer you’ll love our vintage 1970’s black blazer. This classic 3 button blazer would be great to shuffle from work to play.
If your whole wardrobe is preppy then you’ll be interested in our 1980’s camel colored wool blazer.  This three pocketed confection would make any girl who loves horses very happy.
Lately, the styles this fall have been a throwback to the 1970’s and what better way to get that effortless look than to have a blazer straight from the 70’s.  Jump straight into the fall with our 1970’s plaid blazer with tortoise shell buttons.  Or check out our blue geometric print 70’s blazer.  Both are perfect examples of what we love about vintage clothing.
Love vintage but, not the 1970’s?  Desiring something completely unique for your fall look?  Go off beat with our sumptuous 1980’s Cream Military Blazer.  A double breasted beauty with gold embroidery and gold buttons would be great for holding on to the end of summer.
Alice + Olivia
Skip the layering this fall and choose a funky sweater paired with an adorable skirt.  We saw this combination across the board for fall fashion.  Alice+Olivia showed off some leg for fall with their sweet polka dotted full skirt and cute knitted tie sweater.  A great look for those not so hot days.

J. Crew
Burberry Prorsum
Heading into that chilly office? Take some tips from Burberry and J.Crew.  Tuck an oversized cowl neck sweater into a pencil skirt for a laid back but still professional outfit.  Or rock a swiss knit patterned sweater with a satin pencil skirt that screams business.
Stella McCartney

If you just need a quick and easy outfit for that hideously cold lecture hall check out Stella McCartney and her oversized sweater with short flowy skirt.  Need the perfect skirt for your fabulous sweaters?  We’ve got a few warm skirts perfect for keeping warm as the seasons change.

Try out our 1970’s Folk Mini Skirt with your favorite simple sweater for those days when it’s not too cold; short and sweet with lots of color to keep things interesting. Want something a little longer?  Be trendy and wear white past Labor Day with our own 1950’s circle skirt.  This skirt would be the perfect accent for an oversized sweater or for just about anything.  Need something more professional?  Get back in the swing of fall with our 1960’s Tweed Skirt.  Dress this skirt up for a night out or down for the workplace.

Rodarte
Another timeless transition look is the fisherman’s sweater.  These large cable knits are great for keeping warm and looking great while the world turns.  Taking a walk outside this coming fall?  Take a hint from Rodarte and pair your large fisherman’s sweater with a simple pair of cargo pants.
Oscar de la Renta
Going on a date?  Who says you can’t wear a sweater when going out?  Check out Oscar de la Renta’s adorable pairing on sweater and satin skirt for some inspiration.
Beautiful People
Just need to get from dorm to class?  Zip up a pair of loose shorts like Tokyo’s Beautiful People for an outfit that will keep you looking fashionable this coming school year.

Don’t have a cable knit sweater?  Take a gander at our 1960’s Yellow Men’s Milanoknit Sweater.  While, it is a men’s sweater it would look great as an oversized knit!  The bright yellow color makes this piece so unique and can definitely transition not only summer to fall but most likely winter to spring.

Jill Stuart
With so much vintage style coming back these past few seasons is it any wonder that the infamous turtleneck is back?  Not to fear!  We have gathered some fashionable inspiration to help turn around the bad name turtlenecks often receive.  Avoid looking frumpy by selecting a certain style of turtleneck.  For instance, take a hint from Jill Stuart and grab a large fuzzy turtleneck and pair it perfectly with a pair of dark printed skinny pants.  This look is perfect for casually roaming around the city.
Balenciaga
Or take your oversized turtleneck to work with a simple black skirt and some cuff boots.  Gain some insight from Balenciaga and grab a pastel colored turtleneck to break up the mundane office day.
Vivenne Westwood Red Label
Get a night out on the town look with a printed turtleneck dress like Vivenne Westwood’s Red Label.  While everyone else shivers with coming chill you’ll be sitting comfortably enjoying the weather change.  Don’t be afraid to layer a little bit with your turtleneck.  Whether you throw on a cardigan or a blazer over top or a light collared shirt underneath you will look positively stylish for the coming fall.

Thrown out all of your turtlenecks before the summer started?  Don’t freak out! We have the solution.  Fall in love with our very own 1970’s Paisley Shirt.  This shirt has more of a cowl neck than a turtle neck but for those creative fashionistas out there this would be the perfect shirt to take you from summer to fall without straining your neck.  Need a warmer dress for those hot nights out?  Then you definitely need to take a closer look at our 1970’s Sweater Maxi Dress.  With a slight turtleneck and gorgeous side slit this unique piece is a guaranteed hit for any occasion.

Marc Jacobs
Recycle your best summer dresses this coming fall by layering them.  You can use a plain button down shirt like Marc Jacobs or put your new found love of turtlenecks to use like both Rachel Zoe and Jill Stuart.  You can use any dress in your arsenal of summery confections for this look.

You can even convert your strappy night time dresses into day wear with a simple layering technique.  You aren’t limited to what shirt can go underneath.  You can use a classic button down shirt for great work wear.  You can use a lacey or crocheted shirt underneath for a more casual day wear.  This is probably the most versatile solution to the season change.

Don’t have any dresses great for layering? Come take a look at our own stock of versatile dresses.  Here are a few examples:  Go simple and classic with our 1960’s Black Shift Dress, perfect for the day or the night.  Or go bright and beautiful with our 60’s Aquamarine Shift dress.  Get edgy with our 60’s sage shift dress with small collar and thin purple belt.  Or be sunny in our yellow 1960’s short sleeved shift dress.  All are perfect for layering up this coming fall or wearing on their own for summer.

As we say goodbye to summer let’s enjoy the last warm days in style and be prepared for the chill that’s coming in with great fashion forward sense.
