Getting Back

Summer vacation is almost over and the new school year is encroaching on our laid back sunny days.  Getting back into the swing of the school year can be very exciting considering it’s time for the most important event for fashionistas, back to school shopping.  After gathering together your school supply goodies for class you get to go clothes shopping!  We’ve picked up on some new trends for this fall that will help you look stylish every day of the school week, not just the first day.

MAD FOR PLAID

Mad for plaid is not a new trend but, definitely a stylish one that continues to be a hit.  Don’t believe us?  Just take a look at Emma Stone out sporting a plaid button down shirt and skinny jeans.  This simple plaid shirt is a great gateway to a laid back school year.  Take your own vintage plaid home with our 1970’s Plaid Blazer; a great 3 button blazer for those skinny jeans and favorite flats or sneakers.

MINI PLAID

Absolutely love being a girly girl?  Shake things up with a plaid mini dress.  You can go full and frilly like Emma Watson or sleek and chic like Zooey Deschanel. Take your plaid mini from day to night with some easy changes.  Add tights to your mini and some simple flats or flat boots for an adorable day look.  For the night, lose the tights and add a leather jacket for an edgy night look; perfect for going out with friends.  Haven’t found a plaid mini dress, yet?  Come and drool over our 1960’s handmade Plaid Mini Dress.  The autumn colors and little additive collar create a unique one of a kind look sure to brighten up your dull school days.

SKIRTED

Worried about wearing too much plaid? Instead of wearing all over plaid you can add interest to your favorite outfits by substituting single pieces.  Try swapping out your plain skirt for a plaid one.  You’ll look on trend without trying too hard and a plaid skirt can be a great staple piece.  Can’t find the right plaid for your school arsenal?  Click on our 1970’s Plaid Skirt and see if this great skirt would fit right in with the rest of your closet.

PLAID LEGS

If you can’t bear to be parted with your skinny jeans even for an adorable skirt then you can apply the plaid trend to your leg wear instead.  The perfect pair of plaid pants can make all the difference this school year.  Take a break from your baby blue jeans and play around with some plaid pants.  You can style them up for a preppy look with a blazer and simple white shirt.  Style those checked pants down with a laid back tee and creative belt for a great relaxed school day.  Haven’t seen any plaid pants that have caught your fancy?  We have a great pair of 1970’s Pendleton Pants just lounging about our office waiting to go back to school.

TRAILBLAZERS

TOMBOY CHIC

Whether you are single, have a regular boyfriend or just a summertime fling a boyfriend blazer is a great way to shake up your school outfits.  Steal away your boys’ blazer and pair it with your favorite shorts and shirt for a summery look that can transition well into the chilly fall.  Take some tips from Emma Watson and put your lacey shorts to use with a light pastel colored boyfriend blazer.  Or grab your usual white tee and blue jeans for a more refined look.  None of you guys’ own a light blazer?  Get a little offbeat with our Olive Green 1960's men's sport coat.  While, it is a mens' we guarantee that any girl worth her fashion salt can pull this lovely coat off.

INDIE ROCKERS

As the weather gets colder you can wrap up in a dark colored boyfriend blazer.  You can rock the indie band look by channeling Taylor Swifts’ style.  Grab your favorite dark wash skinny jeans, a light shirt and great cuff boots for a semi-serious school outfit.   Switch out classic black for a startling white coat to add a little edge to your everyday look.  Can’t find a great classic blazer? Why not take a look at our 1980’s White Military Blazer; the perfect over sized blazer with a little more pizazz.

TAILORED PERFECTION

Not a fan of an oversized boyfriend blazer?  You can still have that polished look with a well-tailored blazer this fall.  Just take a look at Zooey Deschanel for some girly inspiration.  A charcoal fitted blazer with a pink button down, shorts, tights and cute shoes create an easy going girly look without being frilly.  If you are a sleek chic kind of girl then you should take your fashion pointers from Emma Stone.  A deep navy blazer with turned up collar, dark wash skinny jeans and a simple tee scream style without going overboard.

Fall does surprise us sometimes with warm days and on those days a perfect blend of blazer with bright shorts is in order.  Are you on the lookout for a great tailored blazer?  Why not take another look at our 1980’s Camel Colored Blazer.  This three pocketed blazer would make a great addition to your school wardrobe

LOVELY LACE

SUMMER TO FALL

Summer may be over but, your favorite summer trends are definitely not flying away.  Lovely lace transcends all style tribes.  Whether you are a refined modern princess like Princess Kate, an adorable laid back country girl like Taylor Swift or a quirky vintage loving gal like Zooey Deschanel, lace adds a bit of beautiful detail to your everyday outfits.

LACEY WARMTH

Our suggestion on how to achieve that lovely detail is to add a lace jacket to your wardrobe.  A simple lace cover up is a great addition to any school day.  If you are searching for something completely unique we have an Edwardian Lace Jacket that begs to be taken back to school.  While this piece is definitely vintage, it’s not your grandmothers’ stuffy jacket.

MILITARY SASS

OUT OF THE TRENCHES

Get edgy this school year and add some military details to your humdrum day.  Take some inspiration from two lovely ladies across the pond, Emma Watson and Princess Kate.

A great trench breaks up a girly girl look.  An easy way to get the edgy feel of a military trench is with our 1980’s Secretary Dress.  This simple dress with large side buttons and pocket would be the perfect addition to a closet of dresses.

Hopefully, these new trends give you great ideas for the new fashion of the school year!  Good luck on all your classes and don’t forget to stop by our blog and etsy site for great updates and trends.
