Coats Through the Ages

Coats have slowly evolved to cater to people of each time period. We searched through each generation’s different styles for influence and inspiration for today’s trends!

 1950s:

In this era coats ranged from full and swingy tent coats to tapered and fitted styles with large collars to three quarter length coats and thick, heavy material. Fur was a big aspect in decorating coats.

1960s:

Women started wearing dyed fake furs, boxy-cape shapes with large oversized buttons.  The Nehru jacket also became very popular for men and women.

1970s:

Suit-coat jackets with large lapels were popular with both men and women in this decade. Military jackets, capes and ponchos became standard.

1980s:

Suede fringed coats, Members Only jackets, denim and leather; lengths varying from waist to all the way to the floor were common for both men and women.

Check out the coats we have on our Etsy site from all these generations!
