We are two weeks out from Halloween. If you want to wear a little something for Halloween, but not a costume, we have a round up of DIY T-shirt ideas in the spirit of Halloween:
See this plain and shabby candelabra? With a few inexpensive supplies, it has been transformed into a festive Halloween cupcake stand! This project is so simple it is frightening!
The candelabra was purchased at Goodwill for $4.99 minus a 20% off coupon. (Every time you donate goods to Goodwill Industries of Southwestern Michigan, you receive a 20% off coupon!)
What to do:
Paint the wood with a little black craft paint. ($0.57 at Walmart)
Tie fall colored curling ribbon around the candle holders. ($1.27 for 4 colors at Family Dollar)
Bake cupcakes in Halloween cupcake wrappers, frost with orange frosting and add sprinkles and pumpkin picks. ($1.20 wrappers & 1.20 pumpkin picks at Hobby Lobby.)
Place five cupcakes on top of the candle holders and put the rest on a plate.

Inspired to see if we could copy this look, we made a photo copy of the picture and headed to the our Goodwill Store. The objective was to find pieces that were similar in shape and style. Each piece could then be spray painted in a matte black to achieve the look.

The lamp is very unique in that it has a "container base". Because this is a one trip to the store adventure, we didn't find a container lamp, but this lamp had a similar shape. Spray paint the lamp base black and add cutouts of bats to the lamp shade.
The center of entryway table has a pot with white flowers crawling with spiders. We found a ceramic pot that had a similar shape and size.
The flowers are actually a diy project with coffee filters. Also, notice that the wreath hanging on the mirror is also made of coffee filters. Be sure to check out creationsbykara.com blog for direction on making the flowers. Coffee filter flowers

To finish up the center, wrap a couple of books with black and white paper and hot glue a few spiders (plastic spider rings from the dollar store) to the flowers.
The three pretty pumpkins were painted white and the stripes are created with black and white ribbons. A good substitute for real pumpkins would be the plastic pumpkins buckets.
This skillet was recently donated to Goodwill and drew a lot of attention as it made it's way to the store shelves.
The skillet seemed to invoke warm feelings and memories.
One lady said that her mother, as far back as she could remember, only cooked with cast iron pans. Another person had fond memories of camping with the whole family and their Grandpa making the best outdoor breakfasts in the cast iron skillets. Another shared that the best fried potatoes are made in cast iron.
Yes, there seems to be a soft spot of cast iron skillets.
This particular cast iron pan's cooking days has been deemed by some as over, but even that has been debated by those who have looked it over. A cast iron pan needs to be seasoned on a regular basis to keep away the rust and maintain its non-stick feature. But a cast iron pan can last a lifetime.
If you find a pan that is truly beyond salvage for cooking, it can still have value as a decorative piece.
